Today I cleaned out my voicemail at work of a number of saved but unneeded messages. I was in rapid-fire mode, recognizing them all as I went along. I noticed they pretty much all started with "hey, Dave." Even from people I never had spoken to in the past.
I think I need to start with a new salutation when I talk on the phone to people from now on.

Upon the rare occasion that I do leave voicemails, I don't think I ever start with Hey, ___________.

I start mine out with either "Hey, it's Laurie/me." or "Hey babe, it's me."
But really. What else is there to start out with? lol

Sometimes I use the more formal opening, ala Hall 9000, "Good Morning, Dave." When I'm feeling a little frisky, I opt for the Copy machine repair guy opening, "the Dave-meister!" or "Dave-o-lator!" And if I'm feeling especially "special," I go for the Spicoli opening, "Duuuude." On rare occassions, I might even try the Ice-T version, "Yo. 'Sup." That one takes some attitude.
"Hey, Dave" is boooring. I say have fun with your voice mail messages! :D

Maybe a good ol' New York "How YOO doin'?" will be the way to go.

Good one, Dave! :)
Here's one I don't quite get: "Uhh, yeah. This is your bro." From my brother. As if I didn't know his voice... Or who he was.

I always just say "Hi, its me."
One time I did that to my boss and he had no idea who "me" was. Once he found out it was me he asked me if I realize how many voicemails from different people he gets on a daily basis.
