Oct 2007

She’s the global superstar who is only rivalled by Madonna in levels of fame, she has gone from slightly saucy school girl pop to full blown raunch’n’roll in the space of a few years and she has had her fair share of scandals in her private life. She is Britney Spears – pop star, icon and all round licence to print money.

It’s hard to imagine that Britney’s short career has yielded so many hits. Her peers (Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson) have barely had a handful between them, yet Britney seems to turn everything she touches to pure gold. One listen to her ‘Greatest Hits’ and you are in no doubt that you are listening to one of the key pop singers of the last ten years. With a batch of songs that constantly strive to push the boundaries of the genre Britney has managed to consistently stay ahead of the game, reinventing and re-imagining pop at every turn.

...Not trying to say anything. but thats kinda false when it comes to hits. Yea her lead singles are always memorable but were they hits...#1 hits?

I think anything top 10 or even top 20 is a hit these days, as long as its memorable and radio loves it.

Britney has always had great music, can't deny that I've always enjoyed it so it's no surprise she's got more hits with all 5 albums then her peers.

Just because a song is #1 doesn't make it great. Case in point everything that's #1 now sucks.

Britney doesn't need her songs to go #1 for them to be memorable. We all know 3/4 of the songs that do go #1 now aren't memorable.

Britney has 7 #1 worldwide songs.
Some of her biggest songs that didn't go #1 are Toxic, Oops, Gimme More, Slave 4 U, etc.

That review is spot on.

I think Christina's had more hits than both of them (Jess and Brit) to be honest... or at least I think Christina and Britney are at the same amount.

Christina: Genie, What a Girl Wants, Come On Over, Lady Marmalade, Nobody Wants To Be Lonely, Dirrty, Beautiful (these are all WW #1's). I think Fighter & Ain't No Other Man are pretty memorable, too but they didn't go to #1.

Britney: Baby One More Time, Oops!, Stronger, Slave 4 U, Overprotected, Toxic, Gimme More.

To be quite honest, I don't remember any of Jessica's songs except her first one (I Wanna Love You Forever). :nc:

That proves the point. Britney doesn't need the charts to say her music are 'hits'. People listen and know her music despite its position and through the years, damn near all of her singles have become classics even when they didn't make the top10.
Britneys music speaks for itself. She makes 'hits' no matter where they chart.

worldwide Britney has been a much more consistent hitmaker. Christinas guest appearances on other peoples songs arent really HER hits.

& what is that supposed to mean?

It means this:
its a UK review
Britney has had 18 lead top ten hits in the UK
Christina has only had 10.
So Spears has almost double. Fact.

Christina is only on her third album, and Britney has five so of course Britney has more number 1 singles than christina. If Christina had five albums she would have the same amount as Britney or more.

The point is who's going to remember Nobody Wants To Be Lonely, Ain't No Other Man, Fighter, Come on Over, etc?

Those aren't classics. I'm not trying to be rude, it's just fact. Anyone who thinks about her only really remember Genie (to a degree) Beautiful, and Dirrty (for obvious reasons)

With Britney they hold an entire era with Baby One More Time, Oops, Toxic, Slave, and Gimme More. Piece of Me is one of her most best reviewed songs and made it #15 on Rolling Stones Magazine list. Don't forget about BOMT which is on the list of best songs, and a song that changed the world. (Another Rolling Stone List).

I don't think Toxic, Slave, and Gimme More are anymore memorable than Ain't No Other Man, Come On Over, and Fighter, to be honest...

I agree here. I think pop fans will remember all the hits by both Britney and Christina.

Christina just needs another studio album to catch up.
and a GHP to showcase her stuff.

I loved Gimmie More.

That was the ring tone on my phone. Until I ruined my phone, the phone I have now does nothing. It rings your standard crap ringtone and I can text. I can't wait until upgrade time. :(

Brit fans Never seem to remember that Chris has only had 3 albums. Britney Popped out albums...Look at RiRi she has just as many hits as those girls and has be out for like a year! LOL She popped out her albums, let Chrstina release 5 albums and then lets compare.

I will say Brits songs are CLASSIC pop songs. But so are Chris's...Brit odviously has more.

And to say Come on over isnt a classic is dumb.

I think in the future some people will struggle with remembering any of her early songs. Genie will obviously come up, but Im not so sure about Come On Over. I like Come On Over.

BOMT will definitely be remembered. I'm really not sure about GIAB, wasn't that memorable.

CHUD and Voice Within should have been bigger hits. Love those songs.
