Okay, I can't believe there are NO hockey fans here!

I'm not paying much attention to the Western Conference yet, but so far the Pens and Rangers are in (hate the Rangers, but hate the Devils more, so yay, I guess  ), and the Flyers will probably be in after tomorrow night.

Anyone else care to comment?

There was a hockey thread up in the BSB forum, kinda died though, lol. Anyways, I'm a Pens fan so I'm happy to move on to the next round. Habs/Bruins should be an insane game tonight.

While disappointed that my beloved B's got creamed in Game 7, I must say that I'm extremely proud of how well they played during that series. I honestly never thought it would hit Game 6, much less 7! Hopefully, this young nucleus is a sign of better times to come for the Bruins.

Ya gotta love playoff hockey!! It is far and away the best postseason of the four major sports, especially if lots of games go into overtime.

Well, here in Flyers country, we're grateful to the Bruins for stretching Montreal to 7. At least they haven't been resting up while our guys were getting pounded along the boards!

And my wife is grateful to your Flyers for winning, since this means her beloved Rangers get Pittsburgh instead of Montreal in the second round.

Of course, the way the Pens played against Ottawa, I'm not sure that's much of an improvement!

NYR-Pens starts tomorrow... Rangers took the season series, but I'm not sure how many of those games were sans Crosby.

X-factor in Pens/NYR will be goaltending. Fleury needs to keep up his good play and Pens need to win every game at home because they suck at MSG.

Go Pens. That's all I'm going to say.

Yay, both teams played kinda crappy but I was there and I almost peed myself when we scored. What a game!

I hate to admint it, but I was actually rooting for the Rangers by the end of that game.

What is it with the refs letting all kinds of stuff go on throughout the game, then making shaky penalty calls in the last couple of minutes of the game?

My guess is they really want it to be Montreal-Pittsburgh now. They probably wanted it to be Washington-Pittsburgh, so they could showcase Ovechkin vs Crosby. Since they can't have that, they'll go with the Habs.

Could they have let the call go? Probably. But it's not the refs fault the Rangers gave up a 3 goal lead on the road in the playoffs. The officiating in the NHL is terrible and in order to win, normally you have to overcome numerous bad calls.

And I'm sure the league wouldn't mind having one of their biggest markets in the finals either.

Just remember, the Pens pretty much threw the last game of the season, just to avoid playing the Flyers in the first round.

So much for that strategy. :p

Ah yes, but what does that say about a Flyers team that could only score one goal against a team obviously tanking (plus an empty netter, which again, why would the Pens pull the goalie if they were tanking?)? Maybe someone forgot to inform Fleury of the plan.

w00t for the first 2 home games to be on Fri/Sun...the only 2 nights I don't work this week. :D

pinky
May 5th, 2008, 02:32 PM
Well, the Flyers didn't really need to score more than one goal against a team that they KNEW didn't want to beat them, did they?

And the Pens had to make it at least look like they were trying.

Two initials for you: R. J.

Both teams were playing to not get hurt and get into the playoffs healthy, end of story. The Flyers didn't exactly tear it up.

I quite possibly might not be alive by the end of this series.

I hope you make it. But your team's season won't.

Kimmo Timonen is now out for the duration, he has a blood clot as a result of blocking a shot.

Pittsburgh's chances just improved a whole lot. :susp2:

iStillKTBSPA
May 8th, 2008, 10:05 PM
Yeah, you could say their chances improved a lot, but I've watched my team rally around losing their #1 center and goaltender this year and still come out on top of the division, so I definitely don't count the Flyers out yet.

pinky
May 9th, 2008, 05:28 PM
Oh, I'm definitely not counting them out. It's just going to be harder now. Timonen was #1 in playing time, and he basically left Ovechkin and Koivu ineffective.

OUCH!!! Don't you hate when work interferes with fun!!!

Detroit is the center of the sports universe today: Game 1 of Wings/Pens, Game 3 of Pistons/Celtics and the Tigers host the Twins.

Prediction time: Wings in 6. Though this could be the "passing of the torch" in much the same way the Islanders eventually gave way to the Oilers in 83/84.

Whoever wins, this is THE series the NHL wanted: the best team of the last decade-plus v. the team of the future.

Let's hope for LOTS of overtime!!!!

The Pens have had an incredible run thus far. It's been great to see Marc-Andre come into his own like he has. Some people say that the Western conference is the tougher out of the two...some say the Western conference's offense is stronger. I guess we'll have to wait and see how things go down. That being said, I know that Detroit won't go down easy.

Haha, most of my favourite players are on the Penguins, but since my team didn't make it to the post-season, I really don't care who takes the prize. Detroit has been FIERCE in this series. The Pens have had an incredible run in the Eastern conference, but it seems like they've met their match against the best of the West this year...we'll just have to wait and see if the Wings can seal the deal tonight

i haven't see them play like this since last time we won back in '02. you can definitely tell we had the hunger for it this year. soooooo proud of my boys! doin detroit PROUD.

man i can't WAIT for tonight. is it 8 o'clock yet??? LOL

we TOTALLY shoulda had that game!!!!!!!!!

30 friggin seconds and we lose it in triple ot...needless to say, i'm a bit pissed

that's alright, we'll just get it wednesday in pittsburgh..it'll just make it that much sweeter :]

Diva4230

Flower was friggin' brilliant last night!! He was just insane!!

And LOVE Sykora banging on the glass and telling Pierre McGuire "I'm gonna score" he told the guys that in the locker room, and he went out and did it.

If the Pens keep this up I'll be in the ER watching these games. I'm pretty sure I wasn't breathing for most of those 3OT's.

Looks like the Pens aren't going down easy. Don Cherry said the Wings are definitely going to take the series, whether it be in game 6 or 7. A game 7 would make things interesting lol. ;)

iStillKTBSPA
Jun 4th, 2008, 06:12 AM
Well, the odds are still stacked against the Pens, but whatever happens, I give my boys all the credit in the world for not rolling over and dying against Detroit. Of course, I hope they can pull off a win tonight at home, but either way, I'm so proud of them

musikchik19
Jun 4th, 2008, 11:24 AM
wow, guess i was right w/ my prediction about it being a 6 or 7 game series LOL..pretty good considering we didn't play them at ALL this season (and that's usually what i go by).

but i have a feeling tonight is FINALLY our night. i mean hell, we've won all of our other series' on the road. why not win the BIG one on there too :D

just no more triple ot's. my heart and nails can't take anymore of that LMFAO

InfiniteRain
Jun 4th, 2008, 02:47 PM
Good luck to both teams. I'm glad the series wasn't a sweep or anything. It's much more interesting when a series goes the distance. They're saying that Detroit is the one facing the gun tonight in terms of pressure and finishing off the series. Pens seem a bit more laid back about things. We'll have to see how it plays out tonight though

As you should be. They did exceptionally well - especially compared to their post season play last season. They were INCREDIBLE this year
