a BSB fan refers to the NK as laughing stocks.
Now we can debate on the level of talent between the groups, and there's no doubt BSB at least got props for their vocal ability, BUT...
considering the less than enthusiastic reception to BSB's last two efforts, and the many many jokes that have been made since their comeback, and the fact that they aren't exactly burning up the charts OR are on any A lists...it's just a bit comical to make that kind of comment.
Neither group have ever gotten the amount of respect they deserved. At the end of the day, non-fans view them both as boybands.

NK's are laughing stocks??? Wait..who's selling out shows in 4 minutes???????? Who is getting played on the radio?
Is it fair to say this BSB may be alittle jealous? I mean, seriously, i  BSB!! I have no beef with them, i am going to their show 3 times this summer..but seriously, has this BSB fan looked at all the sucess and the reaction NKs have had since their return, or, are they just saying it out of jealously??
Any hoot.....

Totally agree. I still heart BSB and all,but hearing the backlash some of those fans have about NKOTB is ridiculous. And like I like to point out to hating BSB fans,If it wasn't for NKOTB there probably wouldn't be a BSB!

Ok, so i am reading the thread you found this in Kim, which is now closed. I wish i would have read it sooner! People are jumpin on the bandwagon for New Kids?? News to me. I've never left. I lost count on how many solo Jordan shows i attended. I also attended Joe and Danny shows, and watched all of Donnie's movies! If that's jumpin on the bandwagon, then so be it! lmao!!! I think everyone's just so agitated about the tour date fiasco for BSB that they're lashing out wherever they can. I don't think there should be talk of jumping on any "bandwagon," though. If NKOTB "brings in" new fans, more power to them. I've been there all along, though.

They're idiots. I've been a fan of NK since 1988, and I'll tell you what, homegirl saying that the only fans are those that aren't afraid to say they're still fans after 20 years...what the hell does she think people think about BSB fans?
The same damn thing.

As someone else here pointed out, if NKOTB didn't open the door and tap a market that had gone untapped for quite some time proving that it can be very lucrative, chances are there would have never been a BSB, or countless other groups for that matter. I'd say they're owed THAT respect at the very least. ;)

I haven't read the thread since last night, so I guess I missed the bandwagon stuff. I think they're confusing this bandwagon with popularity. You know, sometimes when thousands of people like something it's because it's good...not because it's the thing to do.

I think they are either jealous of the attention they are getting, or, they want to blame Nk's for something that clearly isn't their fault. And the whole bandwagon thing seriously had me LMAO! What i want to know is, where were all the "fans" when Jordan was doing his solo shows at clubs? Sure, some of those shows were close to selling out, but i was at other shows where they was maybe 100 people there!! Sure, there are fans that are jumpin back on that didn't support them in their solo days, but that is not me. I went to over 20 Jordan shows, and damn proud of it to. I had a blast "on tour". Not saying everyone is crazy like me, but i know there were several fans who didn't go out and support the guys solo. But whatever. Ok..what was my point again? LMAO!!!!!

I don't understand their reasoning behind a remark like "laughing stock" either, and I'm a BSB fan myself. I think a lot of people are becoming interested in what they're doing at this moment in time, even myself. It seems to be working well for them, which is good.
I'm looking forward to going to their concert in September, but I wouldn't necessarily consider myself jumping on the bandwagon or becoming an obsessed fan either. I just think the show will be entertaining and fun. If I end up becoming a HUGE fan afterwards, well...then there's just more groups for me to love. Just because another group is getting attention, it doesn't mean BSB are going away any time soon.

I think so too! Haha! I mean BSB have a total of what like 10 dates for their 'tour'? If they were coming to NYC which they are totally skipping, I'd get a ticket. But with the New Kid shows, I'm good.
But it's not even just the lack of attention, I've had a few decisions with BSB fans and a lot of them think that NK didn't open the doors for BSB when in fact they did! LOL Without NK, BSB would not be here. Lou Pearlman saw NK and dollar signs went up in his head and bam! you have Backstreet Boys and Nsync!
And I think the bitter BSB fans are pissed at the fact that NK have been away for the past 14+ years and they comeback and have soldout most of their shows. A lot of the bitter BSB fans even stated they wouldn't sell out that much lol but again, most of their shows are SOLDOUT! And selling out in 10-30 minutes.
But of course if it was BSB, they'd be doing flips and yelling with joy. But because it's not and it's another group who came before them and is still kicking their asses with tour sales and radio play. I guess I'd have my panties knotted in a twist too! LOL

Jun 4th, 2008, 07:34 PM
While I rather keep the conversations from the BSB off of this one since many of us post on both (and I...moderate them both), the BSB tour can't be controlled by the fans, it has to be controlled by general demand. And unfortunately, when the sales dramatically drop over 70% in the second week (and the first week sales were not so great given their past history), people shouldn't be surprised on how the tour ended up.

I just think that since they know how it feels to be mocked and disrespected SO MUCH FOR SO LONG that they'd have some kind of mercy in their hearts for NKOTB. I figured they'd be rooting for us.
That's how I've been all these years where BSB is concerned. All the times I've encountered BSB backlash...I've always felt for them and cheered for them because I know how that feels as a Blockhead.
Until they started pulling shizz like Unbreakable...then I had to sort of half way give up on them. *shrugs*
But whatever...my point is, they've worn the shoes before and are currently wearing them now....why would they encourage or participate in the backlash of NKOTB or persecute the fans of NKOTB?

This is exactly how I felt at first. Well...not only mercy...but excitement for the NK's fans. When I saw them on the today show for the first time, I felt I could relate. That's how I felt about BSB.
I severely lost that feeling since visiting the New Kids official boards though. LOL. Some of them are so against everything BSB, and won't lose a chance to diss them. It reminds me of those NSYNC VS BSB days. LOL. Now we have BSB fans dissing New Kids, and New Kids fans dissing BSB.

Just to play the devils advocate here
In a way New Kids did and didn't open the doors for the BSB. On one hand, Pearlman created BSB after learning about the New Kids. That part I can understand, but on the other hand...it actually took BSB longer to get started and come out with an album than New Kids. It took BSB a while to secure a record deal, because record companies didn't want to take a chance on them because the pop era of music was over. BSB had to do a lot of ground work to achieve their goal. That's why they started off in Europe. In this aspect, they didn't 'open the doors for them' so to speak. If those doors were left wide open for them, they would have had an easier path to success than New Kids because it would have already been paved for them...but it wasn't.
I'm also happy to see that some of the New Kids shows have sold so well, (and I admit better than BSB's), but I think it is fair to say that most of the recent batches of tickets have actually not sold out. I was recently on the New Kids site, and was surprised to see many tickets on sale in many venues. Some of which were still selling section 100. I guess those would be in the smaller cities though...maybe?

Not really, but kinda.
Those fans who do that HAVE NO CLUE. They just want to take the fact that Kevin said something that could be viewed as negative (but very true) and run with it. They want to fixate on BSB being imitators. They refuse to even try and view it as imitation=flattery. Kevin was 100% correct when he said NKOTB are the reason why it was so hard for BSB to break out. NKOTB's backlash is a million times worse than BSB's has ever been, is, or ever will be.

I'm gonna own up right now and say that creating this thread was a mistake. Bringing up BSB in any kind of negative light only makes BSB fans defensive. It's just like that on NKOTB.com with the NK fans who get all up in arms over anything that suggests BSB are anything but inferior to the NK.
It's tiring and annoying for those of us who are actually fans of BOTH groups. And it makes me feel schizo when I go to the NK board & see something about BSB that forces me to get defensive...then I come here & people gotta be obnoxious about the NK reunion & act like they're jokes...which brings out the defensive for the NK. So I spend time at least every other day on each board defending each group. What I really wanna tell people is to shut the **** up and enjoy what you wanna enjoy or don't. Both groups are significant in their own way, whether you like them or not.
But that whole rant up there is a general rant about the last several weeks of dealing with annoying fans of both groups, not anyone specific.
In regards to THIS thread & the whole NK paved the way for BSB controversy...
No, the way wasn't paved. That would imply that BSB had things easy, and we all know they didn't. Even Donnie has said in the past that the New Kids backlash probably made things harder for BSB.
HOWEVER, BSB would've never had the chance to even struggle to get recognized...as in wouldn't have been in existence if not for the NK. They may not have formed to be another New Kids...they may not have wanted to be compared to them...but regardless of what THEY wanted, they were formed out of the inspiration of the success of the NK. Might they have all found each other someday without Lou Pearlman and his big lightbulb moment while watching a NK concert? Sure, anything can happen. But the likelihood of that is slim to none. So no New Kids, no BSB.
In any event, both groups worked their asses off to be the successes they were/are. It didn't come easy for either of them. Both have had to deal with haters, and fans of both groups have had to deal with the hatin as well. Regardless of what WE think of each group...and who we think are the most talented, or who paved the way for who....non-fans look at all of us as jokes. They don't care about any of that. For all of BSB's talent, at the end of the day non-fans think of them as another boyband...just one of the more popular ones. And Lord knows NKOTB had to deal with enough hatin over the years. So the arguing amongst fans is stupid. We're all in this big ass boat together. And us arguing over which boyband is the best is like arguing over which Pussycat Doll looks the sluttiest or which Simpson sister is the dumbest. I mean, is there a right answer?
I'm not sure what I'm rambling about anymore, so I'm going to work.

I wouldn't say "open the door"....more like "there's money in this type of group, the question is how to make it work for me." It wasn't that Perlman saw them, it's the fact that they were able to rent a private plane, even though some were not old enough to legally drink. What should be remembered that in America, the New Kids were the only real game in town for teen groups. But in Europe, after seeing NKOTB having success, more groups were formed such as Take That and pop music continued to thrive in Europe when pop fizzled out and the music became more grunge and hip hop/R+B influenced. And that wouldn't surprise me why that was one of the initial reasons BSB and N Sync broke out overseas first before making their way back here. By the time 1999 rolled, more record companies realized that there IS money to be made and especially to the younger generation who has a lot more disposable income and thanks to the Internet, knew how to network with other fans. And because of this, I feel people became less resistant to pop music simply there were so many more acts in the genre than one decade earlier, when NKOTB were really the one big act people thought of when you thought of. For me, the main difference was it was really NKOTB vs. everyone else. Ten years later, there were a lot more pop acts vs. everyone else.
In the end, each had their own struggles to break through and to gain acceptance from the mainstream. It just bothers me when BSB or N Sync gets slammed for being copycats (when their one time manager was the road manager for NKOTB) and NKOTB are slammed for attempting a comeback for nostalgia's sake. Especially if you're a fan of both.

You just really don't know what you're talking about, that's all. And you're missing the point and trying to make one that really don't matter. I don't give a damn who opened a door or who didn't open a door. No New Kids, no BSB....and I don't care. New Kids took forever to finally become famous, they were no overnight success...same for BSB. AND? SO?
Yeah, I never said there would be a BSB without New Kids. You've obviously read into something I said the wrong way. I even stated that before in my post. It's the same situation with New Edition.....Maurice Starr got New Kids together after New Edition left him. I also didn't say that success came overnight for New Kids. Again, you're reading into what I'm saying. I beleive they did work hard to get to where they are, however...it took BSB more time to release their album. That's all I said.
And for clarification...yes without the New Kids there would be no BSB. I know that and never said any different.

REad my reply again, otherwise, no thanks.
I did read it again. I replied before you edited it. Glad to see a bit of a clarification there.

If the doors were wide open for BSB, it wouldn't have taken them as long....that's all. They had to break down their own doors...so to speak, because the pop era of music had faded. Technically, "breaking down the doors" for someone would mean "paving the way" for them or making it easier for the other to make it into their success. It didn't work that way with BSB.

So?
Now should I say...*in dumb girly voice* I never said blah blah blah...and I *did* say blah blah blah? You're reading into what I said...blah blah?
lol
If NE paved the way for NKOTB, then ____ wouldn't have happened or ____ would have been easier for them
SO?
Where were you all those nights all of us here discussed this in the BSB forum in depth for endless hours and days? (long ass time ago) Everything you're saying has already been said. SO WHAT.
Again, I don't care who OPENED a door, who BROKE IT DOWN,(so dumb and pointless) who paved this way or that way and who didn't, who made it easier for who or who didn't make it easier, who sucks ass right now as a band and who's selling out left and right. If there was no NKOTB, there'd be no BSB....and so?
And no, I'm not making a statement that if there was no NKOTB there'd be no BSB...I'm saying SO WHAT IF IT'S TRUE. So what if it's not.

Seriously, I'm only clarifying myself because you're saying I don't know what I'm talking about. How exactly do I not know what I'm talking about? You replied to me......if you don't care who opened the door for who, then why are you replying to my message saying I don't know what I'm talking about? Why didn't you just say...who cares in the first place? You're right...in the real world it doesn't matter. Both were huge. I think you're making this into a bigger deal than it actually is.
Oh and if you don't want to know...don't ask...
How are you getting that because BSB took longer to make an album that it must mean New Kids didn't open a door for them?.
I realize you said something about you'd rather not know after this comment, but if you really didn't care...why would you even bother to include it in your message?
