I tried posting multiple avatars that were 100x100 pixels and it still said the file was too large because of the resolution I guess? Does anyone know how I could fix this?

no, i think it's the KB. try saving you avatar as GIF. :)

Sometimes it can be the KB size is too big.Others have had that problem on here so i resized the avy's for them.

If you want to show me the avy's ya made.I prob can help ya too.

If you are using photoshop go to file> save for web and then choose any file format of your choice photoshop will automatically decrease your image size All the icons are saved through this method

If you are using paint then its very simple while saving the pic choose gif format from the dropper and save it
