I have a feeling, after tonight, that he will beat Mark Spitz's record for gold in a single Olympics.

That 4 x 100m freestyle finish was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in sports. Makes me think Phelps has a meeting with destiny in Beijing.

Nice to know he's volunteered for "super testing" to prove he's clean. I can't imagine his doing that if he's taking any performance enhancers.

Does it tarnish the feat, I ask as Devil's Advocate, that the U.S. will likely win the 800-meter frestyle medley Wednesday with Phelps, even though he wasn't part of the qualifying team Tuesday?

If the rules allow it, I'd say no, although I don't necessarily agree with the rule on that point.

Regardless, his next gold will establish him as the world's only 10-gold medal winner in history, and that alone is pretty amazing.

Besides, there are not guarantees that he'll win every event.
