The Boston Globe has also reported (http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/09/13/palin_camp_clarifies_extent_of_iraq_trip/) that Sarah Palin did not actually visit Iraq or Ireland, as the McCain campaign previously maintained. When questioned further, McCain campaign aides admitted that Palin only visited troops in Kuwait and did not cross the Iraqi border, and her "travel" to Ireland consisted of a refueling stop.

I think that depends entirely on whether you were able to see Iceland from the plane window. If so, congratulations you're a foreign policy expert.

Were you in a predominately French-speaking province or English speaking? If it was English speaking, I'm afraid that might not be foreign enough to award you the "expert" credential, but I'm sure a nice ambassadorship to Canada awaits you.

Would it be inappropriate to anoint myself Queen of Earth? I've been to every continent except Antarctica, so if Sarah Palin gets to be a foreign policy expert based on her state's proximity to Russia and thus qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, I strongly feel I'm qualified to be more than a mere president.
*Rushes to find out how to become one of those every day people who rides the space shuttle so I can then become Queen of the Universe.* I suspect I may have to settle for Queen of Earth though, as I think the cost of a space shuttle ride may be a tad out of my league.

Uh oh, I could be screwed as I don't think I've ever seen an entire episode of Star Trek. Wait...I have booked tons of hotels through Priceline. Since William Shatner is their spokesperson, I think that gives me enough Star Trek cred. Oh, and I sat at the table next to Walter Koenig in a restaurant recently. (My friend recognized him; I wouldn't have had a clue.)
In the spirit of unity and compromise, I may be willing to give up control of other galaxies in exchange for being Queen of Earth and a serious wad of cash. Let me ponder that for a bit.

I suggested a Canadian ambassadorship for you, but if that isn't up your alley I'm sure we can find something other than servant. Don't sell yourself short! After all, we are in the era where being able to see a foreign country from your state's soil qualifies as foreign policy expertise.
You need to learn the fine art of bluster or creative bs. Surely you have some hobbies or special skills that can translate into high-level positions. For example, don't you bike ride? That qualifies you for Secretary of Environmentally-Friendly Transportation.

If you managed to sit the entirety of Voyager, there is something wrong with you, so no, you can't be QotU. Great Bird of the Galaxy is up for grabs still. :(

Voyager wasn't as bad as DS9.
db44
Sep 13th, 2008, 09:40 PM
DS9 started better, before it became space soap. And it was the most unique of the shows: Exploring new life that came through the prominade.
By the end, yes, it sucked (which sucks as Sisco/Brooks was my favorite captain).
Voyager was soap opera-y the whole way through. And while the original treatment said supplies - and more importantly - crew, would be limited, it seemed they always managed to replenish their "red shirts."

Hey now ... I LOVED DS9! Odo ruled. Hands down. Well next to Data of course. They only angered me when they killed off Jadzia at the end of the 6th season.
Voyager was incredible too ... Janeway rocked! The only one that disappointed me in a lot of ways was Enterprise. LOVE Scott Bakula, but it just never grabbed me the way it should have.
TOS and ST:TNG will always be the best though.
So back to ruling ... we could divide up the galaxy into quadrants like they did in DS9. Alpha Quadrant, Gamma, etc. I take dibs on Alpha *cheeses*

As a daughter of a Trekkie, and since i was named after Spock's mother, out of curiosity....why didnt you put may he rest in peace after Gene Roddenberry? He is the grand master of it all.
And I have also seen every single movie, most tv shows, and once went to a tv taping of a William Shatner TV show.
I think this qualifies me to be in the running at least!
How did you meet all these people? Aren't Conventions as costly sending a kid off to college?
and who is Denise Crosby? what character was she?

Sep 15th, 2008, 11:57 AM
I think the RIP was for all three of them. Mark Leonard could have been included in that part as well.
Denise Crosby was Tasha Yar, the Enterprise's (D) security chief for most of season one. She was replaced by Worf, who was already on the show.
I never saw Gene, and saw everyone up until DS9. I haven't been to a Con since Voyager started, but hope to make it to one in the near future.
And, no they aren't college-expensive. A day pass used to me, in the late 80's, about $16. Some are whole weekend things, where they rent out a whole hotel. Those could get pricy. But if you lived in New York, it was just a day down at the Hotel Pennsylvania.
Without Classic (TOS), the others wouldn't exist. Sounds so City on the Edge of Forever, doesn't it? ;)
For the most part, I liked Enterprise a lot. I'm a sucker for continuity, so going back in history and explaining some things from later generations was a good thing. Also, after TOS, I think they took the future technology for granted often. Having Enterprise rely on technology more was a good thing. Seeing them test things, i.e. using the transporter for the first time on living beings, was cool.
Yay! My inner geekdom is running free!!! :D

I totally forgot that we had lost Mark *sighs* such an incredible actor. First saw him on "Here Come The Brides" as Aaron Stemple, the mill owner. Then he was Sarek on TOS the next year.
And I agree on Enterprise. The writing was haphazard though, some episodes outstanding, some never really made sense. I know they would have been so much better as time went on, but the merger between UPN and the WB killed it. They never got their 7 years to shine!
My inner geekdom is always just below the surface LOL I'm a Trekker for life!

I'm serious when I say I don't think I've ever seen an entire episode of Star Trek. I don't know why. I have a vague memory that my brother might have been a Star Trek fan, which would have automatically made me a non-fan, as we didn't get along at all as kids! I guess I should be over that now though, huh? ;)
I might have seen one of the movies -- I can't remember, which may be a testament to my aging memory or the forgettable nature of the film. ;)

Only the odd-numbered movies were forgettable. If you saw one of the even-numbered ones, you'd remember.
The Kardassians are nowhere near as scary as the Kardashians. :greyno:

It was a good thinking person's show, like the Twilight Zone. The effects, sets and costumes may have been cheesy, but the writing seperated it from the likes of late Lost in Space (a show which started off as exciting before they writers seemingly discovered mind-altering drugs). In three years, the show did well handling issues such as racism, war, self-consciousness, religion and tribbles (Just had to throw that in there). Again like the Zone, it was the only way to get its messages out there, masking our issues by placing them on other worlds, with alien races. TNG did even better with that.

Not so much in these episodes, although there are some two-parters in the run of the show.
I think "I, Borg" is self-explaining, although for basic reference, the Borg are the big enemies in TNG. Cyborgs that "assimilate" the races they come across. By the time of this episode, they had attempted to kidnap the captain and turn him into one of them.
