View Full Version : Obama ignores Medal of Honor Recipients

In this case, the American Legion, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Paralyzed Veterans of America, as well as other veteran’s groups, were sponsoring their gala that has coincided with the inaugural evening since Eisenhower took office in 1953. In total, nine presidents and 56 years have gone by, and each inaugural evening the new president arrived to thank the veterans and Medal of Honor recipients in attendance. As one of the “unofficial” balls, it meant quite a bit to have the president show up and make an appearance.
Except this time.
The president and first lady, for the first time in those ensuing 56 years, did not make an appearance at the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball. In attendance at the gala were 48 of the 99 living recipients of our nation’s highest honor. Of the 99 who are still with us, not even half are in any condition or possess the wherewithal to travel to such an event. And by the next inauguration, likely half of those won’t be with us.

This “change” appears to have set the tone for the rest of his administration. To forgo a tradition of greeting the veterans who’ve received the highest honor in order to attend galas featuring Hollywood elites was just a bit too much to bear.

Even in his inaugural address to the nation, he mentioned the sacrifices of veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, but failed to mention (or deliberately ignored) the veterans of our current sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan. That gives more credence to the feeling that he just no longer cares about the sacrifices being made on behalf of our country and the service that so many Americans have made over the years.

I know this is not considered credible, but it does come from military members. I was actually shocked when I seen this. How could he not go to this important event, even if it was for 10 minutes. He had plenty of time, I mean the media was saying he was 45 minutes ahead of schedule. What is more important then our veterans and those who have received the highest honor in our nation? To me nothing and it says a lot about him and how he thinks of the military.

So connie....what did you think about Obama inviting the jr members of the military to the Commander in Chiefs ball instead of the Sr Officers that are typically invited?

I also understand that there are 10..yes i said 10 Official balls that the president attends....that is a lot to do in one night....for someone to complain about the president not going to an un-official one.....please...its petty, and i'm assuming that is what we are going to get out of people like you for the next 4 years.

The Republican Negativity has already started........

And as reasonable people understand, support for the military is not measured by a photo op at a party, but by responsible utilization of the troops, by increased support for the well-being of veterans and by improving the quality of life for military families.

Those items are squarely on Obama's agenda.

Why is this even a topic of discussion? Should we google every other party held in Washington on inauguration night and see who else President Obama "ignored?" Come to think of it, I went to a party Tuesday night and Obama wasn't there either. I feel very slighted.

oxymoron

I would also note that Obama didn't invite any siamese twins to the inauguration. I don't have to tell you what a devastating condition it is to be a siamese twin, preventing one from living an ordinary life and often the subject of ridicule. For Obama to not have invited any siamese twins to his inauguration or at least have spoken about them in his speech demonstrates his callous disregard for the disabled. The man is clearly two-faced. Shame on him.
