Hey Mickey

I am not a fan of the Irish fellas, but just saw this little ditty.

maybe it will make getting tickets a bit easier.

The new U2 album has just leaked onto the Internets.

It's very underwhelming!

Sad.

Update: Upon listening to the whole thing a second time, it more than just underwhelms.

It sucks hard!

Maybe - but who would take the word of someone who thinks there is more than one internet?

Rolling Stone is going to give it ***** which as we know means it may still be underwhelming (or even suck hard).

It can't be any worse than Zooropa and Pop.

I'm actually starting to like it quite a bit after 4 or 5 full listens. It reminds me of WOAD in the sense that it doesn't sound like what you'd expect to hear from them. Other than some Edge guitar riffs (and Bono's voice of course) it doesn't sound like U2. My first listen was sort of "What the #%$ is this?" Now the song I'm particularly digging is "Stand Up Comedy." WOAD actually took me a few more full listens than this one before I started warming up to it.

Why would you even compare the two albums, completely and utterly pointless.

Why would you even compare the two albums, completely and utterly pointless.
Because they are two new albums that are released within a few weeks of each other by iconic artists of our time.....and that the U2 album is very ear friendly and I have listened to again and again while the Springsteen Album.....errr..... I believe he is gone the way of McCartney,Wonder and the Stones unfortunately.... great artist.... great live performance...but you can't dare compare his latest to his prime......
that's the way it is
You think people see Buffet for his latest
Aerosmith
Clapton
Springsteen has joined the list
Love LOVE seeing him live but come on....ain't cruising the streets listening to WOAD

After giving it several listens, I actually think it's pretty good, maybe a B for them, where "War," "Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby" were A work in my mind.

Not their best work. Not a "masterpiece" to me as Rolling Stone called it.

A return to some of what they do well and some nice studio work. Solid, like "Unforgettable Fire" and "All That You Can't Leave Behind," but not a redefining moment.

And I'll add on the Bruce side that WOAD has indeed grown on me with time. I wish his album was recorded and mixed as well as this one.

Well, I just 'won it before you can buy it' as caller ten (my kids were downright giddy to hear Dad talking on the radio, as I played the 'grateful winner' part to the hilt for the lonely weekend DJ).

I'll go pick up the CD tomorrow and rotate it heavy in the vehicular player, although free is good and gives a positive review a big head start!

I played the new U2 over the week-end a few times through, yes easy on the ear, but nothing ground breaking, not a big departure from past releases.

On the other hand, the more I listen to WOAD the more I like it.

Yeah, they both get better for me after living with them for a while.

I probably like the U2 a little more than WOAD, but they are so radically different in terms of recording style. U2 recorded about 60 songs, according to the Edge, then put what they decided were the best ones on the new album. If you consider that factor in the evaluation, then I would consider their new record a bit of a disappointment. The Rising, Magic, and WOAD have a combined 40 songs on them. But there may have been only about 45-50 songs recorded altogether for Bruce's three albums, to produce those 50 released songs. If you consider that factor, then Bruce's output has been very impressive, IMO.

The new single reminds me of another song and it's driving me crazy! Any ideas?

It's been compared to "Wild Wild West" by Escape Club. Here's a clever mashup.

Which sounds EXACTLY like Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up"

Well spotted and thanks for your expertise. You (if not U2) ROCK!
