It seems that is all Obama can do...apologize to everyone he sees or visits. When is he going to stand up,be an American, and be proud of his country? I would never have sat for 45-50 minutes listening to someone degrade our nation like Obama did last week and then say NOTHING to defend our nation. Obama is a disgrace to this nation.

How is he degrading our nation? He's patching up the VERY strained relations with the world that we've had for the last 8 years. To me, that says he's VERY proud of this country and wants to make us a respected world power again, instead of hated by the rest of the world and the laughing stock for idiocy.

Whether or not I agree with Reg's and Connie's spin of the story, I admit we have eight years of attempted global tyranny and bullying to apologize for. It's nice to be part of the global community again.

"Be an American?" What an un-American comment. Hate to break it to you, Connie, but those of us who disagree with many of the actions of our government are just as "American" as you are. It seems that many right-wingers have great difficulty grasping what it actually means to "be an American."

What did he apologize for exactly? AMerica has been screwing over Latin America for over a century. The last "major" thing I can think of that occured was Reagan in Nicaragua I think? I remember reading a book about something his administration did. Supporting a government that massacred an entire village.

I think this is what they consider an apology:
As we approach the Summit of the Americas, our hemisphere is faced with a clear choice. We can overcome our shared challenges with a sense of common purpose, or we can stay mired in the old debates of the past. For the sake of all our people, we must choose the future.
Too often, the United States has not pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors. We have been too easily distracted by other priorities, and have failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress throughout the Americas. My Administration is committed to the promise of a new day. We will renew and sustain a broader partnership between the United States and the hemisphere on behalf of our common prosperity and our common security.
In advance of the Summit, we have begun to move in a new direction. This week, we amended a Cuba policy that has failed for decades to advance liberty or opportunity for the Cuban people. In particular, the refusal to allow Cuban Americans to visit or provide resources to their families on the island made no sense – particularly after years of economic hardship in Cuba, and the devastating hurricanes that took place last year. Now, that policy has changed.
Most people see this as "We're smarter now than we were in decades past, and we're going to do smarter things. We're going to let go of some policies that haven't been working and replace them with policies that we're confident will work."
Some people, like Connie and Regis, see the acknowledgment of past mistakes as weakness. Most people see the ability to re-calibrate your policies and goals as flexible and smart.

It seems that many right-wingers have great difficulty grasping what it actually means to "be an American."Trust me, I have no problem grasping onto the true meaning of being an American. Conservatives have no problem standing up for their country and that is being American. If someone is bad mouthing my country, I will NOT stand for it like Obama did. As our president, he should have commented about those leaders afterwards, but he decided to stay quiet. So he did NOT stand up for our country while overseas and that to me is not being an American. Also, Obama has called this nation "arrogant" while overseas. So yes, to me he is a disgrace to this nation.
Obama is not just apologizing for the last 8 years...he has apologized for things that had occured decades ago. I'm sorry, but I don't think fighting for another country's freedom was wrong, I don't think going in to free people was wrong, and I definitely don't think fighting to keep our nation safe was wrong. So what does this mean now? Can our allies still depend on us???? Is Obama going to apologize to Al-qeada? Pakistan? Afghanistan? How far is he going to go????
I'm sorry, but a sitting President should never apologize for actions of another President or what we have done in the past. Has the U.S.A ever recieved apologies from another leader for the attacks on our nation or our people? NO! This just shows how weak our President is. He would rather please people then be a leader...sound familiar?

There is no weakness in apologizing for the wrongs done on behalf of this country. And yes, invading a sovreign nation without provocation is wrong, no matter how you try to spin it.
