i am a newbie to the whole twitter world. can anyone tell me how to send private messages to people on twitter. Someone has sent me one but it wont let me reply. If anyone can help thanks x

Okay, most private messaging can't be sent unless they have you on their followers list too. Sometimes you can send a private message if you're not following them, but it depends on their settings. If you're accessing from the web, this is how you would reply:

1) From your web Twitter account, click on direct messages.

2) On the message you wish to reply, go to the far right side of the box. On the top you'll see an arrow and a trash can at the bottom.

3) Click on the arrow and it'll put the person's name in a box at the top of the screen.

4) Place your message of 140 words or less and hit send and you're done.

you can just type in dm (space)their name and it should change to say direct message about the box. similar to when you type @theirname and it says "reply to".

If it's a celebrity, you can't send a private message unless they're following you. If they're a regular person you can send them a message from the right side of their profile. It'll say Actions. Using my Twitter for example. This is how it'll look under the action tab:

Message BSBSavedMyLife

Nudge BSBSavedMyLife Block BSBSavedMyLife




You would click on message and it'll take you a private message screen. Type your 140 word or less message and hit send.

thanks for all your help. things are starting to make sense. I have tried to send a thing to aaron on his page but it dosent seem to have appeared. It has appeared on mine but not on his.

Ah, yeah, you only see what he writes on his page. That's how Twitter works. If you're following him, you'll see what he's posting, but when you reply, it comes up on your page, not his. However, if your page is private, he will not see what you're saying to him. Twitter is a bit confusing at first, it took me a couple of weeks to learn everything.

you have to go to settings and protect your updates..but it probably isnt inless you did that
