Record cold predicted for Friday
The Capital Times — 7/16/2009 11:32 am
If you have plans to visit a waterpark on Friday, the trip could be more chilling than thrilling.
Record low high temperatures are forecast for southern Wisconsin on Friday as a very cool Canadian air mass covers the region.
The high on Friday is only expected to be in the low 60s, which would be under the record coldest high temperature in Madison for July 17 of 67 degrees, set in 1900.
Before then, Weather Central meteorologist Brian Olson said it should be sunny to partly sunny and pleasant on Thursday with a high of 77 and a slight chance for a stray shower far south of Madison in the afternoon.
A few showers might linger in southern Wisconsin on Friday as the thermometer tries to budge past 60 after an overnight low of 54, while the low on Friday night could drop into the upper 40s, nearing record low territory.
Saturday's high is expected to be in the upper 60s, which could challenge the record coldest high temperature for July 18 of 68, set in 1924.
