If you had to select 1, just 1 artist, who in your opinion ruled the 80's...
Who would it be?
All right, all right, you can select 3.
So tell me. I'd like to know what you guys think.
I say Madonna, but I don't know too much about the 80's so I'm not sure... I think the other two I would mention are: Michael Jackson and Tina Turner.
So who are your selections?
cyane

Wow very hard Marvin :p
mmm...
Madonna
Michael Jackson
The Cure

Hey, a real 80's question. Those are kind of rare...
In no particular order, I'd select Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, & Michael Jackson.
NikDC
Apr 3rd, 2001, 07:32 AM
Great one, Marvin.
1. Madonna, like the others. She'd have to be the number one for me.
2. Michael Jackson. Thriller and Dangerous were mammoth.
3. U2. Under a Blood Red Sky, War, The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum. They span the 80s.

I'd have to agree with Nikki,
Madonna
Michael Jackson
U2
But we mustn't forget Duran Duran!

I agree with all the artists mentioned in the previous posts, but I would like to add Bruce Springsteen to the list, cause that man was/is truely the boss of the rock & roll scene.

Hmm, I'm glad to see all this responses. And I am glad to see each and everyone agreeing on Madonna. :)
I doubted if this thread was gonna be well received by you guys. I thought that this question was maybe one of those questions that people ask like each week. But I see it isn't. That's good.
I feel good.
Btw, someone said: a real 80's question. What? People in here doesn't speak about the 80's muisc that much or what?

Oh, Marvin...our reputations preceed us, I see.
We don't talk that that much 80s here simply because there isn't much new stuff happening (it being the '00s and all :p) but we'll jump on something 80s related if someone can think of something.
We haven't done top lists in a while.

LOL @ Nik.
Well, thanks for the explanation! I really don't know why all of a sudden I was interested in asking this question. I have to say that it was mostly because of Madonna, because I know she was BIG, Way BIG in the 80's...
Anyways, thanks for your responses peeps.
Keep answering!
Btw, am I right in saying that Tina Turner was big in the 80's?
NikDC
Apr 4th, 2001, 03:38 PM
She was. Her big comeback or appearance as a solo artist was in 1984 with Private Dancer featuring the title song and What's Love Got to Do With It.
Actually Cher did big in the comeback department then too...or a few years later. In terms of going solo--Cher, Tina and Michael have to win the 80s.
junio
Apr 4th, 2001, 03:59 PM
But Cher started her soloism in the 70's with songs like Half Breed and some other songs.
I totally love Cher, if you didn't know. I love her!!!
Of course, Cher was big in the 80's, she was great. What was her last song of the 80's? 89's If I Could Turn Back Time?
cyane
Apr 4th, 2001, 04:13 PM
Yep Tina Turner is great and she did a show at Rio and it was her biggest crowd ever in a concert
Cher is great too but i dont remember what was her last song from 80's.
junio
Apr 4th, 2001, 04:20 PM
I wish I could see Tina Turner in concert!
And Cher... Well, I so wanted her to come to Puerto Rico with her last tour... It was so great, so cool! If I ever see Cher in concert I think I'd die.

vester
Apr 6th, 2001, 07:53 AM
Oh go ahead, take it as a compliment. And then whack him in the head with your axe.

Note to guys: this does not work in your continuing quest to get some.

sunshinegirl
Apr 6th, 2001, 08:03 AM
No saying someone looks "snotty" is not taken as a compliment by most women. Of course "nice rack" is not usually the best conversation starter either...
I was so amused last night. I went to a bar where there were about 15 guys for every one girl. Talk about interesting dynamics. It was incredibly amusing to watch some of these guys...you would swear that they were trying to talk to beings from another planet, not a bunch of college girls.

KY and I were in a bar Tuesday night with a few of our guy friends. This one obviously slobbering drunk just kept staring at me and finally walked straight up to me and said, "Are you with these guys"...with them all standing right there 2 inches away from me. For a split second I wondered which one of them was going to hit him first.
It seems like most guys check their brains at the door of a bar before walking in. Or is it just me? :D
Short Chris
Apr 6th, 2001, 08:15 AM
Bars equal alcohol + women. These are not generally things that men deal well with. Be happy he didn't throw up on your shoes.
NikDC
Apr 6th, 2001, 08:19 AM
Poor KY. Yes, I think they do.
That's why I don't do the bar scene well, X. I don't wear shoes. :D

Apr 6th, 2001, 08:26 AM
I don't do the bar scene well either Nikki. I've found that I'm completely intolerant of idiots. Also, I'm completely intolerant of incoherent drunks. SO, give me a room full of idiotic incoherent drunks and I last about 5 minutes before I'm ready to go home.
That, ISOJ, is why we're single...despite the ratio. :) Nobody said there was any quality in that 15:1.
sunshinegirl
Apr 6th, 2001, 08:27 AM
Guys enter bars and they automatically become brain dead. Add alcohol to the mix and what you've got is frightening. Now put 500 of them together with scantily clad girls who have also been drinking and you can almost feel all of their brains implode in one massive *thump*
I saw lots of absolutely gorgeous guys last night. I was amazed. Of course I was even more amazed to see these same guys try to do the Roger Rabbit to Shaggy and try to see how many beer bottles they could fit into their mouth at one time.

Nope no one looked like Jason. But I think the Gap had a run on it's green sweater department. Almost every gorgeous guy was in a green sweater. Must have been a convention...
I'm with you PB. But then what does that mean for the poor saps who are both idiots and not gorgeous?
NikDC
Apr 6th, 2001, 08:40 AM
Up a creek without a paddle which is where idiots belong. Though I don't necessarily find much gorgeous here, I find enough asses to make up for it. Seems to me that most of the male bar-going population are, or with alcohol become, not only incoherent bumbling idiots and asses, but they're also gropers who seem to think the dance floor is the back of their '74 Chevy and that doing the Lambada to every song is perfectly accepable. Keep your hands where I can see 'em, mister, until I tell you otherwise.

You have to find the right bars. There are many different kinds. When you live in the bar capital of the US, you begin to understand these differences. There are jock bars, meat markets, artsy bars, high class bars, middle ages trucker bars, etc. All of which are code names for establishments where guys go to get laid and girls go to get free drinks and laugh at the guys.

Yes Sunny you can meet in a bar.
It started out terribly because he was with all his testoterone-filled fire guys after work and I was with my girlfriends.
I was eating a free hors-d'ouerve and one of the fire guys came up and asked if I need help getting the crumbs off of my sweater aka boobs. Strike One.
We were then surrounded by said fire guys and they were blabbing like idiots except for this one cute, quiet guy standing beside me who talked to my friend most of the time. Strike Two.
Long story short, it took 3 weeks before I called him and I didn't even call him, a friend of mine did. Very grade 7.
Moral of story. You can meet someone in a bar.
