All of BBD were in New Edition. I just couldn't remember if it was Micheal Bivens or the Bell guy.

Biv (the short guy in the ugly glasses) discovered them.

No, Boys II Men weren't around in the 80's.

Y'all know how some artists from the 80's are so very 80's that they can't really fit anywhere else? Who do you think were the timeless acts of the 80's? Artists that you can appreciate even today. And do you think the artists from that "era" that are still around today count?

I'm thinking The Smiths, U2, Depeche Mode...

Anyone?

Madonna
Beastie Boys
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Prince
Patti LaBelle

I agree with iggy's list plus:
Whitney Houston (even drug induced)
perhaps Bon Jovi if they can follow-up Crush with another good album

and Air Supply. Their songs are timeless. http://talk.livedaily.com/docs/tongue.gif

It's quite a coincidence that you ask this question today. Just yesterday I was thinking (while in traffic...my home away from home) that the Chili Peppers have been visible in a big way for quite some time...and they keep getting better. I'm actually considering buying Californication. Thusly, they have made my list.

Sounds like Lady T is more alternative. The Smiths? Are they still around. Morissey was a freak show.

I know it's been a while since we've had to discuss 80's music, but try to at least read the question before you start listing bands.

Lord, my load is heavy.

Red lipstick and drawn butter don't go well together either. You end up looking like a groupie for The Cure.

Were Boys II Men around in the 80's? The guy who discovered them was still in New Edition at the time, no?

I thought someone in Bel Biv Devoe "discovered" them. You know - Motown Philly back again, ABC, BBD....

While my favorites aren't exactly popular, I just saw AC/DC and KISS in concert and both have been around since the 70's~ now that is timeless, unless you look at them close up and see all the wrinkles. I saw Styx, as well recently, and they are so old they needed to bring out chairs to sit on after 1/2 the show.

Then there is Judas Priest who is still around as well. I guess I like the ones that have been around so long they'll need wheelchairs by the time they retire.

How come nobody mentioned Michael Jackson? I mean he did a few records in the 80's and he became a huge sensation during that time.

P.S. I forgot to mention that i'm new on this board.

Oh yeah, Michael Jackson, the cute little white fellow with all those black brothers and sisters and the bones of the Elephant Man.

Ok, my list includes MJ along with all the other acts mentioned everyone mentioned above plus The Boss (I think he was overlooked) 2nd worst voice in rock (behind Dylan) but a timeless rocker just the same.

He OFFERRED a million for the bones, but they weren't for sale. (At least not for that price.)

OK I'll add my two cents in(its the only sense I've got)

John Mellencamp has remained popular(with us old folks) and has stayed pretty true to his 70/80 roots(he left Jessica Simpson to introduce his music to the kiddies)

Don Henley is also still making some great music even though he waited a long time before giving us some new music.

Sir Elton John is still making music and receiving awards after 30 years(music to animated soundtracks count doesn't it?)
