Well, I have read parts of it. Mostly Old Testament.

And my question still stands: When I find that the bible appears to conflict with my understanding of God, do I reinterpret God in light of what the bible appears to say? Or do I interpret the Bible in light of my understanding of God?

The Wiki entry above seems to suggest that Barth would interpret the bible according to his understanding of God (Jesus). That is the view I would also subscribe to.

I see this as a key issue where Fundamentalist Christians actually place the Bible over Jesus Christ. Which appears to be idolatry to me.

One could argue you dont even know who or what God is without first knowing the Word that is in the Bible.

Its like saying some people put the Word of Jesus over Jesus. Makes no sense really.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." John 1:1-5

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14

You did by saying he wouldn't ask these questions if he read the Bible. Can't even understand what you're saying?

Il say it again. Read the Bible. Im baffled as to why someone who has many opinions on the Bible has not read it for himself. You read books about the Bible yet you really haven't read the Bible. Why not read the New Testament?

Dont mind him. I've already tried common sense with him and some of the others in the Christina forum. As you can see, he is not really here to add to the discussion, just to make jabs at me.

Chad, honestly, I think you're taking this a bit too personally. I've seen absolutely no evidence that oxymoron is here just to take jabs at you. Really.

I think oxymoron SHOULD be taken seriously most of the time. While some of the posts on other boards (BSB, for example) are done totally tongue-in-cheek to see what the reaction is, in here I find oxy's posts to be more thoroughly thought provoking than anyone else's.

Whether or not I agree with his posts, they're always interesting and stimulating.

I feel he does that here more often than some of you think. Or maybe its just me that notices it.

I see. I misuderstood. However, I agree with pinky. Perhaps you don't take oxymoron's posts seriously because you don't understand them. I admit, I have to google terms or names he uses at times. His posts make me think.
