Glitter What Ifs?
*Sighs* Let us go back in time a bit to see how a Mariah Carey project could of not been such a smash.
Here are my thoughts on how it wasn't extremely successful....... 1. TITLE CHANGE The project should have remained "All That Glitters" Having it with that 1 word automatically down grades the project. No one will take anything seriously with just the word "Glitter" and being the fact that most mariah albums titles are 1 word everyone assumed "Glitter" was an album not a soundtrack. 2. RELEASE DATE No one could of predicted the horrible events of 911 (except Bush who knew all along but that is another topic) This also had major impact on the movie. 3. RUSH PRIORITY "Glitter" although any true fan will say it was a great movie seemed so rushed. if giving alot more time the movie would've been released into 2002 and would've been a smash. 4.VIRGIN RECORDS Those crackhoes over at that label did not promote "Glitter" to it highest bounds. the singles would've had a much higher impact if promoted properly. *Sighs* Although I loved this movie and soundtrack. I still cannot believe what has happened. Mariah came through the rain and survived. I am so happy for her and many more projects are on the way. Mariah Carey will go down in the books as a legend. and Mariah.........I LOVE YOU TONS. |

I believe that Glitter would've done well if it was released at the height of Mariah's career or even during the Butterfly (album) phase when she was still very 'hot'. It's like although Britney Spears's Crossroads was also panned by critics it still managed to make a decent amount of money. Glitter may have still been disliked by some critics who get paid to critique (since we are all critics in one way or another..we just all don't get paid for our opinions on various things..lol), but atleast her fans who would've went out and supported Mc would've been in bigger droves, so some 'success' would've been made by the film and possibably the soundtrack.

They needed someone bigger to play her co-star. A bigger name would have attracted more people I think...
9/11 certainly did not help the film... I however, enjoy the soundtrack very much. Its one of my favorite albums of hers, although it took awhile to grow on me. "Lead the Way", "Don't Stop", etc, are some good jamz

Here's what went wrong
First, and most important, the lead single was a bad choice and since the lead single is supposed to be a representation of the album people assumed it was more of the same and didn't buy it....and the album didn't really have any good singles to choose from. There were some good songs but nothing was really "single-worthy". Last Night A DJ Saved My Life could've been a decent single if it was reworked in a different way. Second, I think Virgin did a good job promoting it. She was everywhere...literally. She was doing too much promotion actually. I guess the soundtrack could've used some more promotion but the movie commercial was on almost as much as Britney's damn Pepsi commercial. Third, the movie just was't that good. I enjoyed it but I think you'd probably have to have been a fan to really like it. Fourth, 9/11 can't be totally to blame for lackluster first week sales because we must remember that Jay Z came out that same day and sold 460,000 copies. |

That is true..... Jay Z did sell that many copies on that day.
I guess I am still mad at Virgin Records for dropping her at the blink of any eye. I mean she rose from that happened but DAMN. The industry is horrible. Even still more than ever Mariah has a chance to redeem herself. She has a production film company. So we will be seeing at lot of mariah on film in the future. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! |

IMO it didnt sell because if 911 i love that movie and there isnt nothing wrong with it. So what if she was being herself in that movie. She did a good job
