Jefferson on Religious Freedom

Here are some gems from Mr. Jefferson, a sometimes vocal opponent of organized religion, though a champion of religious freedom as well. You'll notice that the emphasis is not on freedom from any mention of religion, but freedom to practice as one desires. You can click the link below for some more quotes.

Have you ever visited the Thomas Jefferson home, Monticello, in Charlottesville, Va? You'd love it if not, it's totally awsome! You have this strange feeling of being back in his time and hearing the conversations in that old home. He was a very religious oriented leader as well.

"I Wish Most Most to be Remembered . . ."
After his death, a family member found a sketch prepared by Jefferson, containing instructions for his tombstone. Jefferson desired that his grave be marked by an obelisk inscribed with the three accomplishments for which he most wished to be remembered, "and not a word more":

Conspicuously missing is the fact that Jefferson held all of the higher offices of political service, including governor of Virginia, secretary of state, vice president, and, of course, president.

Never been there, but I'll put in on my list, definitely! I love old places like that because of that very feeling of sort of going back in time. I remember feeling that way in O. Henry's house when I visited it once and in some of the less touristy Missions around San Antonio (there's no much of the Alamo that's not all touristy). Thanks!

So what happens when one religion's belif clashes with another? Why do some Christians feel it is their God-given right to impose their religion on others when those others may have as strong of beliefes about not being offered conversion?
